Welcome to Amsterdam exchange students!!!
Woohoo!! Here I am gonna give you a couple of tips that you need to take into account when arriving to Amsterdam either by train, bus or plane.
* Everybody in Holland speak pretty good English so don’t hesitate to ask anybody for directions/information
* Taxis: As pretty much everywhere, they are the MAFIA hahaha, not long ago one taxi driver killed a passenger in Leidseplein (centre of Amsterdam). Besides that taking a taxi is quite expensive, just to get in the meter shows 8,60 so you getter get your way around with public transport or share the taxi with as many friends as you can.
* Public transport is expensive too but it is pretty good. Almost always on time, night busses everyday in Amsterdam, the tram and metro are alright, you need to buy an OV-chip card that you gotta scan every time you get into the bus/tram/metro (it will be extremely easy to travel for free in the tram).
* Get a BIKE. For 50 euros you can get a decent bike but for cheaper too (once I bought a bike for 3,5 and it lasted 3 weeks, still pretty good for 3,5 hahaha).
Basically those were the most important and basic travel tips. They work for sure!
