Will HES be in the news today?

This morning a police helicopter was circling above the HES again. Perhaps the official news will be the same story as last week when the police run in to our neighbours at ROC. They where looking for weapons but couldn’t find any perhaps this week they where looking in the HES? No I don’t think so HES is super quiet today…..

click here for the Parool article from last week. (in dutch)

Graduating at HES Amsterdam

What is graduating at hes like?

MichaelLeveringFinally arrived at hes, and when you stand in front of that building you realise that it might be the last time you will ever see it…. haha how great is that! Four years of hard working, just to experience this important day! That’s all I did it for!

The Graduation Ceremony started with a small reception, with coffee and tea. Here all the people gathered together. The nice thing is that you see the people again after a year of exchange periods and internships.

And there they were, the people I missed for months; those I used to drink with, hang out with, get bored with, make fun with, cheat at exams with (hehe, just kidding), relax with, present with, study with, Yes, honestly I had to work of course, well at least read the books to know what the subjects were about, get mock exams and study it, write some stuff at exam papers and get at least the minimum of 5.5.

Unfortunately you don’t see all the people at the reception that I would wanted to see. Not everyone made it in four years.

After the reception we walked to the “North Serre” where a stage and a large beamer were installed. The moment you enter the “North Serre” you get that feeling of doing your first presentation ever, sooo nervous. No one knows what is going to happen. You can see everybody being excited and nervous at the same time.

Then Ms. Vila Roches (the Spanish teacher) opened the Graduation Ceremony where soon Mr. Resing took over to speech about studying and stuff like that. After Mr Resing’s speech the students had to go forward and pick up their diploma, one by one.

Hey… and here is the moment for YOU to watch the videos we added at the website under the “tab” videos…. that’s what happens next!

Lucky me I had to pick up my diploma and Peter Fonkert (my dissertation-guide) gave a speech about me, and I got a present! Nice!) Next, other students picked up their diploma and the teachers Mr. Weaver and Mr. Moosa gave a short speech or asked questions or made some jokes.

After all speeches went to another room inside school were everyone could get drinks and snacks.

And then!

YEESSSS finally done with HES! Yesyesyesyes…..Finally I can say: bye bye HES hasta la vista!

Annoying people flyering at HES

Annoying people flyering at HES

AAAAHHHH They are driving me crazy, all the those guys standing at the entrance of the HES giving away flyers for some sort of huge Babylonix party. They organized a book fair that was pretty cool but I forgot my books. I think they represent Babylonix and iStudyatHES.com.
Hey but today is quiet where are they? Ohh shit I missed the party I think it was sold out…..

If these where your thoughts you definitely missed an AWESOME opening party at Club Home. So next time make sure you buy your tickets in advance because a lot of people couldn’t get in.

More flyering @ HES?

CASH

CASH

No sorry this is not a free cash give away but just a small newsflash from HES. Personally, I am fully used to the electronic payment system at the HES. Sure sometime it can be annoying but on the end it would make much more sense if you can pay fast with your chip all over town. However, in some cases we just need good old cash to pay with.

Students and teachers have been complaining about the fact that you can only pay electronicly in the HES but yesterday the system at Sorbon was down and we could actually pay with real solid EUROS. Don’t expect a long error, they said it would be fixed by Monday and again electronic only.

Book fair day

Book fair day

Today was the Book Fair at the HES Atrium and it was a success. More than 50 books sold, pretty cheap books that made many students happy.  For example “Corporate Finance Fundamentals” was sold for 40 euros when just 10 meter away at Scheltema, the same book was offered for 70 euros, “New Era Management” in pretty good condition for 30 euros when new is like 60 euros. Like these, we can give lots of examples but well, if you weren’t there you just missed the chance of the semester to get really cheap books!! No worries, tomorrow (Friday 11th) we’ll be again at the HES entrance, mainly to sell tickets for the Exchange Party @ Club Home” but there will be a couple of books too so come by and check it out!

For those that missed this opportunitty to sell or buy books you have two options:

  1. Sell or buy books at our special “Getbooks” website
  2. Wait until the first week of February 2010 for the next Book Fair.

See you around!

Book Fair – Thursday 10th 10am-3pm – Bring your books and sell/buy them!

On thursday 10th from 10am until 3pm there will be a book fair at the Atrium.

How is this Book Fair going to be???

During the book fair you can sell and buy second hand books. Babylonix will sell your books during the whole day while you go to your lessons.

How?

Bring those books that you want to sell to the Atrium (first floor, in front of the elevators). We will place them in 4 zones ( first year, second year, etc). You have to choose the price of the books from one of the price categories: €5, €10, €15, €20, €25, €30, etc (this is done for the sake of simplicity). We will put a sticker on the book with the price and with your student number/mobile phone number and we will give you a voucher as proof that you left your books with us. The Babylonix staff will sell your books throughout the day.

Those books which are not sold, will be given back as long as the owner comes back for them, obviously. (Those books which are not picked up on time will become property of Babylonix).

A fee of 10% on the selling price will be charged for those books sold.

Method of payment = ONLY CASH (so make sure you bring cash)

Latest time to pick up your unsold books = Friday 11th until 12:30am at the Babylonix table at the HES entrance.

FAQ

Can the prices be negotiated?

No. We can’t negotiate the price since we are not the owners of the books. The price on the sticker is the final price.

What do I do with my unsold book?

Publish it online for free in our Getbooks website. More info HERE.

Where can I get my books back? Where do I get my money?

From 3pm you can come to the Atrium and get your books back. Also, if you can’t make it at the end of the day, you can also come on Friday morning until 12:30 to the Babylonix table at the HES entrance.

What happen if I don’t pick up my books?

Those books that are abandon with us after the book fair, they will become Babylonix property. Please, come back for your books!!!

Any other questions please do not hesitate in contact us at> info@babylonix.com

HESnet is down!!!!!

HES Amsterdam student intranet is down. It seems that everybody is checking their time schedule for tomorrow and the website collapse! This is really lame since HvA should have bigger servers/band to support all their student checking the intranet… if it happens to this website, well, not big deal but come on, somebody has to invest a bit more money in IT…
