Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

Nowadays, everyone is studying hard to get a(n) (inter)national acknowledged Bachelor Degree, because we all want to have a fancy job or a brilliant salary. Some of you might want to have 2 diplomas by accomplishing the double degree program at HES (IBMS/IFM) or at one of the partner institutes during exchange. Clever students at HES may pursue an academic “Master Degree” at the University of Amsterdam after graduation.
What about the name of the title, what does it says? Each domain within the HvA has different competences. Some programs put the emphasis on Economics & Management and others to fashion & Design. The name of your title depends thus on the program you have followed.
.
The titles that the HES offers are mainly from economic disciplines, but the not all the programs were awarded with the same title. Programs that did not have the respected BBA title were: IBMS, TMA, SMRM, JCU and IM, but since this year HES decided that all study programs at HES will be awarded with: Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
Included study programs: AC, BE, BI, CE, CO, FSM, FE, IBL, IBMS, IFM, IM, JCU, LE, MER, SBRM, TMA.

HES Amsterdam Ranking in the world

After doing some research on different Dutch and international educational webpages, I have found some interesting results about the ranking positions of HES Amsterdam, UvA and HvA compared with other business schools in Holland and the world.

The Dutch rankings are based on the opinions of students and teachers. The organizations that carried out the research and published the results are well-known and reliable companies such as Elsevier and Keuzegids.nl. The information of the international rankings was collected from well-known global organizations such as the Topuniversities.com and Times Higher University Ranking.

I want to point out one thing before going into the tables. As explained before, it is assumed that in international rankings HES Amsterdam is being considered as part of OR actually the University of Amsterdam.

Dutch reputation of HES Amsterdam (Ranking)

According to this ranking list published by Elsevier, HES Amsterdam ranks as the best school to study International Business and Languages (IBL) in 2005 (Click on the image to enlarge). Original ranking list HERE. (in Dutch – pdf file)

HES Amsterdam is part of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) which ranks 4th in the national ranking. On the first place is the Hogeschool van Zuyd. (Click on the image to enlarge).
Original ranking list HERE. (in Dutch)

University of Amsterdam (UvA) Ranking in Holland

Elsevier also published a ranking list of universities and the criteria is based on the opinions of the teachers. The University of Amsterdam (UvA) was chosen as the 3rd best university of the Netherlands in 2007 after Universiteit van Utrecht (1st) and Universiteit van Leiden (2nd) BUT under the category “Broad” universities. Then you have the category “Specific” and “Technique” universities.

Check out the original ranking table HERE.

This rankings are from the years 2005-2007, for more updated information you have to buy the official report that cost around 25 euros (ridiculous, why should we pay?)

International Universities Rankings

According to the Times Higher University Ranking, the University of Amsterdam ranks 48th in the world top 200. UvA improved its position in the last years since in 2003 rank over the 100th position. UvA is also the best ranked Dutch university. The second one is the University of Delft in the position 63rd , Leiden University third in the 84th position and Utrecht University in the 89th position.

According to Topuniversities.com, UvA ranks 12th in the European ranking. The UvA website claims that they are in the 4th position but I couldn’t find it in the official release of the ranking neither in any other place on the web that confirms that. Anyway, that is almost impossible due to the amount of BIG universities in UK that rank always better than the UvA. (Click on the image to enlarge)

What’s up with HES, HvA and UvA????

HES Amsterdam (Hogeschool voor Economische Studies), HvA (Hogeschool van Amsterdam) and the UvA (Universiteit van Amsterdam) are the three main education organizations of Amsterdam and one of the best of Holland, Europe and the world.

These three organizations form the Amsterdam Schools of Economics and Business (AmSEB) which is a unique partnership bringing together all the courses in Economics and Business at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) college of higher education, as well as the research activities of the UvA’s Faculty of Economics and Business. By providing transitional programmes and additional courses, this arrangement makes it easier for talented students to transfer between the various types of first degree – academic and vocational – offered by the different schools and to move directly into Master’s programmes in Business Economics, Accountancy and Control, Fiscal Economics and Business Studies after graduation.
